INTRODUCTION:
The Chinese Medicine and
Acupuncture
Association of Newfoundland and Labrador was founded in order to
unite
practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
within the
province.The CMAANL is a member of the Chinese Medicine and
Acupuncture
Association of Canada, founded in 1983, there are CMAAC Chapter
offices
all across Canada. The CMAAC became a member society of the
World Federation
of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies in 1987. The WFAS is the
only Traditional
Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture society officially recognized
by the
World Health Organization.
Currently there are only 3 provinces who officially regulate
Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture as a distinct and separate
health profession, these are British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To protect the the public and promote a high standard of
professional excellence and patient wellness through the regulation of
the profession and beyond.
OBJECTIVES:
The CMAANL was
established in order
to unite practitioners and to lobby the government for
regulation of Traditional
Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.
The CMAANL's objectives include:
- Uniting practitioners of Eastern and Western Medicine.
- Establishment of high standards as well standardization of
education and training for practitioners.
- Promotion and attendance at international conferences.
- Assisting in the exchange of scientific research.
- Acting as an educational vehicle for the public.
